Animated Series (In Development)

The Rundown

We love animation. We love live-action. Our series takes the best parts of both: performances from real actors are set in an animated world. It’s not motion capture, it’s not voice acting; we film on set and paint over the footage.

Inspired by giants such as Loving Vincent and Undone, we’re making a stylistically unique series. Our process allows us to make big stories for a fraction of the cost—cheaper than full live-action or full animation.

A simplified workflow includes three stages: recording actors, creating backgrounds, and animating everything else. After getting performances from our talented cast, our team of artists paint over the sequence. With the help of digital tools, every frame will be treated with this stylistic coat.

Our team has worked to develop our own unique process since 2019. We've created animation for IMAX and VR, as well as installations for concerts and galleries. Notably, our previous project Heaven won best picture at the International A.I. film festival. Check out our development in this video.

Miko Was Here is a fantastical children’s horror. A four part limited series following Miko, a seadiver, abducted by a ghost ship. It’s ultimately a coming-of-age story about the grim reality of leaving home to find a messy, cluttered world.

Miko Was Here details

Story

While on a routine dive, a young diver named Miko collides with a large container vessel. She discovers upon boarding that the ship, which was deserted at first glance, is filled with strange creatures and even stranger spirits. Alone and far from home, Miko must venture deeper into this unfamiliar world to forge her way back home.

Format

Halfway between a ghost story and an adventure story, the series is fantastical horror aimed for all ages. The series will be four episodes, each around forty minutes long.

Style

Inspired by old woodblock prints in Japan, all backgrounds will be physically made. Through a process of photo collaging, solar printing, and colorizing, each shot will be handcrafted by our team of artists.
